GUYSBOROUGH: The provincial and federal governments announced a joint funding venture for a proposed recreation complex.
Today, Rodger Cuzner, MP for Cape Breton–Canso (on behalf of Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities) and Lloyd Hines, MLA for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie announced $3 million in joint federal-provincial funding for the construction of the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex.
“Recreational infrastructure helps make our communities places where families can have fun and where communities can gather together,” Cuzner said. “Our government is proud to be making important investments, like the one we’re announcing today in Guysborough, that promote active lifestyles and provide residents with the opportunity to engage in a variety of sports all year round, all while fostering economic growth and creating good middle class jobs. ”
The proposed multi-purpose lifestyle centre will feature a gymnasium, an indoor fitness centre, and multi-use meeting and event spaces. The surrounding outdoor grounds will offer a soccer field, a four-lane running track, spectator seating, a refrigerated shinny rink, and a 900-foot refrigerated skating trail.
“There is no question that solid, reliable infrastructure is the foundation for building a healthy and vibrant province,” Hines noted. “Investing in projects like the new Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex helps build and maintain strong communities. This complex is truly unique, and will promote healthy and active living for residents and visitors. I couldn’t be more pleased to announce funding for this project.”
The Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia are each contributing $1.5 million to this project under the Small Communities Fund. The municipality is providing the remainder of the cost.
Municipality of the District of Guysborough (MODG) Warden Vernon Pitts, also participated in the event.
“The Municipality of the District of Guysborough wishes to thank the Provincial and Federal Governments for their investment in our one-of-a-kind recreation project that will benefit MODG residents of all ages,” Pitts said. “The Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex will provide active lifestyle opportunities for area residents for decades to come. It’s a proud day for our municipality.”
