MULGRAVE: Town council has another seat to fill.
On April 18, Mulgrave Deputy Mayor Evangeline Breen offered formal notice of her intent to resign her position on council, citing personal reasons. Mulgrave interim CAO Kevin Matheson said Breen intends to serve until May 4, if permitted by the Municipal Government Act.
This will leave the town looking for two town councillors in the June 3 special election. Nominations for the positions will close on May 9. Advance polls, if necessary, are set for May 27 and May 30.
“Because we were planning to have this [election] to fill the other vacancy anyway, there have been some people certainly calling wondering when papers would be available that seemed to be interested,” said Matheson. “There were at least a couple of folks that indicated interest so we’re hoping they’ll follow through.”
The town has been short a council member since the 2016 municipal election.
