CHATEAUGUAY: A former resident and his two daughters made a bit of a splash on the airwaves last month.

Clarence Digout, formerly of St. Peter’s and now living in Chateauguay, Quebec, recently appeared on Breakfast Television Montreal with daughters Eva and Maria in their three piece band, Family Affair. Family Affair began after Maria joined her father and sister, who had been playing smaller shows at various functions for about 15 years.

“I saw a friend of mine on [Breakfast Television], he’s actually one of the kid’s pediatricians,” said Digout, who then decided to fire off an email with a bio of the band. “He got back to me a week later and said ‘I would love to have you guys on.’ It was pretty neat.”

Digout calls the gig a great memory.

“We’ve been doing Canada Day here in Chateauguay…I think this year was our 12th year,” he said. “That’s a big thing for us and there’s always upwards of 1,000-1,500 people. We do a lot of stuff all around the area and we do a lot of fundraisers and stuff so it was nice to get the TV recognition as well. It was pretty cool.”

Digout left Cape Breton in 1980 as a 20-year-old, and most of his brothers and sisters reside in the St. Peter’s area.

“I try to get back every year but it’s not always possible,” he said. “It’s all good. We were down last year and we played at the Bras d’Or Inn in St. Peter’s. It was a lot of fun.”
