LOUISDALE: Thirteen teams visited the Richmond Arena last weekend for the thirty-eighth annual Freddie MacNeil Royals Tournament.

In the Lesa Sampson Division (Over 35B), the Martell’s Pharmacy Team took on the defending champions Buddy N Boys in the championship. Martell’s won 3-2.

It was a very exciting down-to-the-wire finish. Ryan Fougere had two goals, and was named Tournament MVP for his play with Martell’s.

In the Over 35A division, it was the defending PH Kings over Baddeck 2-1 for the championship. This was Port Hawkesbury’s fifth consecutive championship win at the tournament.

Kenny Wood had the winning goal with 2:36 left in the game, and he was named Tournament MVP.

In the championship game of the Under 35 division, Platinum beat the Renegades 5-2 for their fourth championship in five years. Luke Morgan was named Tournament MVP for Platinum.

“This tournament is a great fundraiser for minor hockey and helps supply bursaries to all our high schools,” organizer Leon Burt told The Reporter in an email. “We would also like to thank all the volunteers that came and helped out at the rink throughout the weekend. It was much appreciated.

“Our tournament committee would like to thank all the teams for coming out, and participating in this tournament.”

Burt noted that the committee appreciates the help of sponsors Burns Vision Centre, Norvon, Kin Excel, R.M. Landry, Highland Beverages, The County of Richmond, Joe Pops, MacBouch Beverage Room, Diggdon’s Freight Services, Breton Wealth (Christian Marchand), and Martell’s Pharmacy.
