Catherine Louise Gillis – Judique N.S.Gillis, Catherine Louise 83 of Judique passed away peacefully Friday February 23, 2018 at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Judique, she was a daughter of the late John (Johnny Big John) and Mary Ann (Gillis) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Parish, Judique and a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College. She began teaching at age 17 and later taught for several years in Ontario at Werner Lake Elementary and Balmertown Public School and from there went on to serve as Principal and will be remembered by her family as a devoted Mother, teacher and wonderful cook. She instilled in her children the values of a strong faith, perseverance and to always cherish life and family. She will be dearly missed. Beloved Mother of Virginia (A.J.) MacIsaac, Burton (Sylvia), both of Judique; Ken (Mary), Antigonish; Brenda (Archie) MacDonald, Judique; Clayton (Karen) Bermuda; Grandmother of Kent (Claudia) MacIsaac, Chris MacIsaac, Amy Louise and Nolan MacDonald, and Alex Ekaristiawan-Gillis; and Great Grandmother of Brooklyn MacIsaac; she will be missed by sisters Peggy (Winfred) Beaton, Halifax; Sadie MacDonald, Judique; brothers John Duncan (the late Isabel) MacDonald, Burlington ON; Clair (Ronalda) MacDonald, Judique; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Loretta in infancy and a sister Marie MacDonald. Resting in the Community Room of the Judique Fire Hall, visitation was held on Sunday, and funeral mass was held on Monday at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Judique with Rev. Allan MacMillan presiding; burial in the Parish Cemetery at a later date. Family Flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Judique Volunteer Fire Department.
