Islanders enter playoffs

PORT HOOD: The Cape Breton West Islanders and Cape Breton Tradesmen will battle in the first-round of Major Midget playoffs this weekend.

The first two games in the best-of-seven series will take place at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre. The teams will play on Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.

Next Tuesday, the Islanders will visit Membertou for a 7:15 p.m. start. Game four also takes place in Membertou, next Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

After that, games will take place (if necessary) on Saturday, February 24, at 6 p.m. at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre; on Sunday, February 25, in Membertou (game time TBA); and on Tuesday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Port Hood.

Last Friday, the guys beat the Tradesmen 9-3 in regular season play. On Saturday, the guys once again dropped the Tradesmen, this time in a 5-4 final. On Sunday, the Pictou Weeks Midgets pulled a 3-2 win in overtime.

On Friday, Fearghus MacDonald (three goals and an assist) and Calum MacPherson (two goals and two assists) led scoring; Jack Morris (three assists) has a big game Saturday; and Darren Waterman (two assists) was the go-to man on Sunday.
