PORT HOOD: The Cape Breton West Islanders remain undefeated on the season after facing the Dartmouth Major Midgets last weekend.
The Islanders managed a 5-2 win on Saturday night and a 3-2 shootout win on Sunday. As a result, the Islanders lead the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League (NSMMHL) with a 9-1-0 (win/shootout win/loss) record.
The Saturday game saw the Islanders run up a four-goal lead after 20 minutes, with Dartmouth beating Islander Colton Ellis only in the last frame. Ellis stopped 28 of 30 shots.
Leading Islander scoring were Avery Warner, with two goals (one on the power play and one on an empty net) and an assist; Craig Ryan, three assists; Stephen Fox, a goal and assist; and Spencer Barron and Jacob Hudson (power play), both with a goal. Managing helpers were Calum MacPherson, Keenan Gillis, and Logan Chisholm.
On Sunday, Gillis and Logan Timmons both had regulation time goals en route to the victory. Assisting were Barron, Warner, and Jacob Stewart. Ellis faced 24 shots.
This Saturday, the Islanders will be off to Cole Harbour.
The game ought to be a test for both squads, as the Cole Harbour Wolfpack is the second place team in the league, trailing the Isles by only three points.
