LOUISDALE: Last year’s Richmond Amateur Baseball Association (RABA) champions, the Isle Madame Mariners, lost both games of a double-header to kick-off the season.
On June 9 in Louisdale, the Mariners lost 14-12 in the first game of A double bill against the Louisdale Baracos after catcher Lucien Gerroir hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh.
Kailum Rogers got in the win on the mound for Louisdale, while Zack Bond took the loss for Isle Madame.
For the Baracos, Christian Marchand went 2-3 with a homerun and two RBI. For the Mariners, catcher Dobson Boudreau went 2-4 with a homerun and also had two RBI.
Louisdale took another close game in the second match by a score of 18-17.
Peter Clow was the winning pitcher for the Barocos, while Dylan David took the loss on the bump for the Mariners.
For Louisdale, Cody Marchand went 3-6 with five RBI, while Dobson Boudreau went 3-4 with another jack, as well as three RBI.
Also on June 9, the Little Anse Hawks took both games of a double-header from the home team St. Peter’s Royals.
Little Anse took the first game by a score of 17-7, with Rod Samson named the winning pitcher, while Darren Campbell took the loss for the Royals.
In the second game, the Hawks won 10-5, with Mitchell Farrell named the winning pitcher, while
Luke Sampson was tagged with the loss for St. Peter’s.
On June 13 in Petit de Grat, the Little Anse Hawks doubled the Petit de Grat Red Caps by a score of 10-5. Mitchell Farrell took the win on the hill for Little Anse, while for Petit de Grat, David Paupin was tagged with the loss.
On June 13, the Isle Madame Mariners swept a double-header against the Inverness Athletics. In the first game, the Mariners won 10-4 with Dylan David as the winning pitcher and Kenzie MacPhail the losing pitcher.
In the second game of the twin bill, Isle Madame squeaked out an 11-8 win as Zack Bond took the win and Corbin Beaton received the losing end of the decision.
The Petit de Grat Red Caps swept a double-header against the Louisdale Baracos on June 16 in Louisdale.
In the first game, the Red Caps won 5-1 behind the pitching of Don Fougere. The Red Caps were led offensively by Maurice Boudreau who went 1-2 with 2RBI and two walks.
Lucien Gerroir was the losing pitcher for the Baracos, while James Delaney went 2-3 at the plate in a losing cause.
In the second game, Petit de Grat won 11-2 with Richard Boudreau taking the win on the bump, while Brayden Marchand was the losing pitcher.
Warren Benoit went 2-2 with 2RBI for Petit de Grat, while James Delaney continued a hot day at the plate going 3-4 with two doubles for the Baracos.
Also on last Sunday, Little Anse swept a double-header against the St. Peter’s Royals.
The Hawks narrowly took the first game by a 9-7 score, with Rod Samson getting the win on the mound. The top hitter for Little Anse was Leigh Bourque who went 2-3 with 3 RBI. Vince Pottie got the loss for the Royals.
The second game wasn’t as close, as the Hawks won 13-3, with Rod Samson again getting the win, and Dennis Delorey credited with the loss. The top hitter for Little Anse was Kyle Stanton who went 2-2 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
