IRON MINES: A little drizzle, fog and cool temperatures couldn’t put a damper on the fun at the seventh annual Middle River Run/Walk held Saturday, May 5.
An energetic and enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Middle River Community Centre for the 10 a.m. start. The 10k Run and 5k Walk is organized and sponsored by Linda MacRae and the Herring Choker Deli, Nyanza. All proceeds are in support of the day programs at L’Arche Cape Breton.
For over 35 years, L’Arche Cape Breton has served and supported people with intellectual disabilities focusing on what people can do, not on what they can’t. L’Arche currently operate six homes where 25 people with intellectual disabilities live with assistants.
L’Arche also runs seven programs that offer meaningful ways for members to spend their days, a chapel, and a house of welcome and retreat.
Assistants from all over the world come to live at L’Arche Cape Breton and experience the unique culture of Cape Breton Island. L’Arche chooses to live relationships in Christian community as a sign to the wider society that hope, love and unity in diversity are possible.
L’Arche Cape Breton thanks all the runners and walkers who participated as well as the local businesses who donated the beautiful prizes.
