Strait regional school board vice-Chair Jamie Samson (left), board member and Mi’kmaq representative Paula Paul,and chair Francine Boudreau cut a celebratory cake in honour of Mi’kmaq History Month at Wednesday’s Board meeting. In the coming weeks, the board will be working to implement an Acknowledgement of Mi’kmaw Traditional Territory as a new part of daily commencement in schools as well as official functions throughout the board.

Students performed “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” in Mi’kmaq. Wednesday’s celebration was the first of many events that will be held in the SRSB throughout October to honor Mi’kmaq history and culture.
