MABOU: All indications from the Spring into Self Care Health Fair suggest the second annual event, which took place on June 1 at Dalbrae Academy, was a great success for the community, as well as the organizers, Jenny MacKenzie and Michelle Greenwell.
“We were thrilled with the amount of people we were able to connect with because of our initiative to highlight creating partnerships with health and wellness enthusiasts,” said Greenwell.
“Our speakers were well-received, and our physical activity portion had both standing and sitting versions of all the exercises shared.”
The event attracted exhibitors and speakers from Belle Cote, all along Route 19, Port Hawkesbury to Antigonish, and there were participants from Cheticamp to Louisdale.
It was evident by the conversations and comments that people are looking for more ways to highlight their desire to be well, Greenwell said. She added many people just don’t know where to start or who to contact with specific questions.
“We are hoping that by using the power of the internet, the Website www.invernesscountyhappenings.com will be a hub for people to make connections and grow partnerships,” she said.
Website traffic is significantly up since the health fair, she noted, and the same can be said of the group’s Facebook page. The site now features “Recipe of the Week” on Mondays to highlight healthy cooking ideas and “Feet First Fridays” offering videos on how to energize through the feet. Many vendors talked about blogging some of their experience and knowledge as well.
“We hope this continual conversation will get people talking, and keep them coming back to learn more,” she said.
