MULGRAVE: The town office building is coming down.
Mulgrave Chief Administrative Office (CAO) Jim Davis said the Town of Mulgrave’s offices moved into one of the units at the Strait of Canso Superport Corporation units.
Davis said the council meetings are now being held at the Mulgrave Fire Hall.
In August, councillors heard a report from Strait Engineering stating the town’s current office space was nearing the end of its shelf life because of some rotted structural steel underneath the building. Council then tasked former CAO Kevin Matheson with finding a new space.
As for the town office building, Davis said it is going to be demolished.
“We’re going to be calling for RFPs [requests for proposals] on the demolition of the building and we’ll dispose of it at the Guysborough landfill site,” said Davis.
“There’s not really any firmed up plans [about finding a permanent home] so we’ll just have to wait and see but we’re certainly not going to be here anymore than a year I wouldn’t think. It all depends. We’ll have to determine what we’re going to do. It’s a short-term solution.”
