Town wants new flood plain study

ANTIGONISH: Antigonish Town Council is looking at a new flood plain study.

Following a special meeting to set the Town of Antigonish operating budget and tax rates last week, Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher said one item in the budget is a new flood plain study for the area. Boucher said the town has two studies in hand and they don’t line up, leaving council and staff unsure which one is correct.

“So it is in the plan to do a new flood plain study to see if there is any land out there that we could be utilizing but we haven’t because it’s in a designated flood plain,” she said.

Boucher said she isn’t sure what the time table will be for the study.
