He also brought along the school’s training rescue boat. Olivier Beyer hosted the CASARA both at the World Ocean Day Festival in Iona on June 10. The Civil Air Search and Rescue Association is a Canadian wide volunteer aviation association dedicated to the promotion of awareness and to the provision of air search support services to the National Search and Rescue Program. Lawrence MacNeil tried his hand at flying with simulated flight program. It offered a bird’s eye view of the Iona area and took a steady hand to control. The StFX Biology Department brought a touch tank to Iona’s World Ocean Day Festival. Pictured are (from the left): Katelyn MacNeil, Veronica Ells and Breton Fougere. Representing Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS) at the World Ocean Day Festival was Heather Oson. MCTS is the eyes and ears of Canadian marine traffic on behalf of the Canadian Coast Guard and they provide one of the first responses to vessels in distress.
