ANTIGONISH: Two missing persons cases in the Strait area had dramatically different outcomes last week.
After being reported missing on November 19, 24-year-old Jacob Spin of Monastery was found two days later.
βHe was located by family just prior to 11 a.m. on November 21 when he walked out of woods,β RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Dal Hutchinson explained. βInitial reports indicated he walked out of woods and waved down a passing motorist. However, it turned out he was in the woods, near a camp owned by family.β
Cpl. Hutchinson said he did not know the exact location of the camp.
βI donβt have the full details on where he spent the night or how he managed to survive the elements, however, Iβve learned heβs familiar with the outdoors,β Cpl. Hutchinson wrote in an e-mail.
Spin was last seen before 10 p.m. on November 19 when he left his home on the Old Mulgrave Road. At the time, Antigonish District RCMP said they were βconcerned for Spinβs well-being.β
RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services assisted with the investigation.
β[Police Dog Services] conducted ongoing searches of [the] area in and around his home and other locations,β Cpl. Hutchinson noted. βAs well, Air Services were utilized on first day.β

On November 24, the remains of David Doucet, who had been missing since November 20, were located by searchers in Margaree Forks.
Doucet was last seen on the evening of November 20 at a Margaree Forks home.
βWe received the call at 3:45 p.m. [on November 23],β said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, the RCMPβs Media Relations Officer. βMr. Doucetβs remains were located at 5:30 p.m.β
Although an autopsy is being conducted and their investigation is continuing, Cpl. Clarke noted that foul play is not suspected.
Cpl. Clarke explained the search by Inverness District RCMP was assisted by the Cape Breton and Strait Area Ground Search and Rescue units.
