ANTIGONISH: Residents on Pinevale Road are asking for assistance from the provincial government.
During the regular monthly meeting of council for the Municipality of the County of Antigonish, Deputy Warden Hughie Stewart informed council of a petition put forward by residents in his district asking the province to look at Pinevale Road. Stewart said around 105 residents signed the petition.
“The situation is… the first two kilometres, [the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal] chip-sealed it,” said Stewart. “The rest of the road, the other 12 kilometres, is gravel road. I call them mud roads. [We’re having] a very difficult time having it maintained. It’s always seemed to be a contentious issue and people are getting tired of it.”
Stewart said issues with gravel roads seem to be a continuing problem in the municipality.
Pinevale Road sees a lot of traffic, said Stewart. While work was done on it last year, Stewart said it doesn’t seem to have solved the problem for Pinevale residents.
“They want the petition sent to the minister,” said Stewart, noting the petition will be sent to the province, along with a letter of support from the county. “I think that it’s a good thing that they’re sending it directly to the minister and maybe they can get some results that way.”
