Mullendore goes crowdfunding route for new CD

Tyler Mullendore is launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise $20,000 towards the production and marketing of a full album’s worth of original music, some dating back to 2010.

HALIFAX: Inverness County native Tyler Mullendore is hoping his new single and video will help to generate enthusiasm and funding for his first full-length album release.

Mullendore, the long-time lead singer for L.A. Speedway and a contestant on the second-last season of CTV’s Canadian Idol in 2007, released his new single and video “Make It Through” earlier this fall. This release coincided with the launch of a GoFundMe campaign that has the eventual goal of raising $20,000 towards the production and marketing of a full album’s worth of Mullendore originals, some dating back to 2010.

“I’m very excited about it,” Mullendore told The Reporter last week.

“This will be the first time that people will be able to get the whole package and not just get little snippets here and there. They’ll be able to get the whole package on CD, or get the whole thing on iTunes. And I’m planning to release another video and another single as well, with the album.”

While Mullendore’s GoFundMe campaign had only raised $325 as of press time, he is already weighing his options concerning potential studios for the forthcoming album. These scenarios include the possibility of returning to Metalworks Studios in Toronto, where Mullendore recorded “Make It Through” in a single day, as the result of winning a nationwide songwriting contest in 2014.

“I was really happy with the engineer there, and we had a great chemistry, and the vibe was right, and we were on the right road, as you can hear with ‘Make It Through,’” Mullendore pointed out.

“It’s a pretty decent recording and the production was pretty good.”

Mastered at Gateway Studios in Portland, Maine under the guidance of Bob Ludwig, whose resume runs the gamut from Led Zeppelin to Daft Punk, “Make It Through” has Mullendore enthusiastically working on more new material to ensure his new album will be a high-quality effort from the first track to the last.

“I want to get into a head space where I write a few more gems out of it and really make the album so every song is really good,” Mullendore declared.

“I find that with, a lot of albums, you’ll have one or two catchy songs and then have a lot of filler. I really want to have this album be right on the money.”

In the meantime, Mullendore is working to nail down some late-2016 performances in his native Cape Breton as he prepares for a November 21 appearance on Global Maritimes’ regional morning show and a December 3 performance at a frequent venue for his talents, Halifax’s Stayner’s Wharf.

“I have lots of big plans,” Mullendore said with a smile.
