HALIFAX: The U17 Strait Area Saints came away from the Volleyball Nova Scotia provincials with bronze medals after dropping the Truro Cougars 25-17, 25-23.
“We went into the bronze medal match and pulled it out against a team we never beat before,” said coach Heather Brennan. “It was a big win.
“We had a great season right from the beginning of January. The team came together and did quite well. We managed to get two gold, two silver, and a bronze in numerous tournaments, and that prepared us for provincials.
“From the first game and every set of every match, the girls played hard and they did quite well. We had a great season and great provincials. We’re very happy.”
The Saints came inches from making the gold medal game, but they ended up losing that opportunity. The local girls faced the Bridgewater Chill for the right to advance to the gold medal game, but the Chill scared up a 25-22, 25-22 victory. Bridgetwater won the championship.
“There were great teams there and the competition was very tough,” Coach Brennan said.
“We had a great group of girls from all through the Strait area.”
