ESKASONI: Eskasoni RCMP have charged a man who assaulted two officers following an incident on Spencers Lane in Eskasoni.
On Jan. 24, at approximately 9:03 a.m., Eskasoni RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a home.
According to information provided by the RCMP, officers learned that a man attended the home, which was in breach of his previous release conditions, and had a verbal altercation with a man and a woman before fleeing the scene.
The man was known to both occupants.
RCMP officers quickly located the man at a residence on Mountain Road.
In an attempt to arrest the man, both RCMP officers were assaulted; one of which suffered serious injuries.
Moments after the struggle, the man was safely arrested when additional RCMP officers arrived on scene. No weapons were used in the assault.
Twenty-nine-year-old Gerard Toney, of Eskasoni, was charged with: Aggravated Assault of Peace Officer; Assault a Peace Officer; Resisting a Peace Officer; Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling-House; six counts of Failure to Comply with Release Conditions; two counts of Uttering Threats; and two counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order.
Toney was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Eskasoni Provincial Court on Jan. 29, at 9:30 a.m.
