As we head into another federal election, I find myself, like many lifelong NDP voters, facing a difficult but necessary choice: voting strategically to stop the Conservatives from forming government.

I’ve proudly supported the NDP for years, drawn to their values of social justice, equity, and fairness. But this time, the stakes are simply too high. With the Conservative leader promising to roll back progress on climate change, public health care, and support for marginalized communities, I can’t in good conscience risk a split vote that helps him win.

In ridings where the race is tight between the Liberals and Conservatives, I believe progressive voters need to come together and vote with their heads, not just their hearts. It’s not a perfect solution – none of this is – but sometimes democracy demands pragmatism.

I still believe in the NDP’s vision for Canada. But in this moment, I believe the best way to protect what we’ve fought for is to prevent a government that could undo it all. Holding our noses and voting Liberal may not feel great – but watching a Conservative government undo hard-won progress would feel far worse.
