As Theatre Antigonish celebrates its 50th anniversary, I would like to take a moment to recognize the remarkable impact this cultural institution has had on our community.

For half a century, Theatre Antigonish has entertained, educated, and inspired generations. From Shakespearean classics to original local works, this community-based company has brought stories to life on stage that have made us laugh, reflect, and sometimes even cry. It has introduced young people to the transformative power of theatre and has given local talent – from students to seasoned performers – a stage on which to grow and shine.

More than just productions, Theatre Antigonish has built connections. It has brought people together from all walks of life, fostering empathy, understanding, and conversation through the arts. Its presence in Antigonish has made our community richer and more vibrant.

As we mark this milestone, let us thank the countless artists, volunteers, directors, stage crews, and audiences who have made the past 50 years possible. And let’s look ahead with excitement to the next 50 – knowing that the curtain will continue to rise on creativity, courage, and community.

Bravo, Theatre Antigonish. Here’s to many more encores.

Walter Taylor,

Antigonish
