LOUISDALE: The Strait Area Chamber of Commerce and the Strait Richmond Housing Matters Coalition are inviting community members, business leaders, and local organizations to attend the Housing Matters Forum in Louisdale on Tuesday, May 14.

The forum will bring together a wide range of stakeholders to explore housing challenges and opportunities throughout the Strait Area. Attendees will have the chance to engage with leaders in the housing sector and participate in meaningful discussions aimed at supporting sustainable community development.

This event follows the recent announcement of a partnership between the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce, the Municipality of the County of Richmond, and the Town of Port Hawkesbury to establish a housing-focused non-profit organization for the region.

“We hope this event will help to inform this work and engage the community around this important topic,” Executive Director of the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce Tanya Felix said. “Interest and involvement at the community level is key to the future success of this new non-profit and an important part of advancing housing initiatives in our communities.”

The Strait Richmond Housing Matters Coalition, with ongoing support from Richmond County Council and the Town of Port Hawkesbury, is committed to increasing access to affordable and appropriate housing in the area.

The coalition’s efforts have been a recurring subject of discussion at council meetings over the past year.

“The upcoming Housing Matters Forum is a crucial step in addressing the urgent need for more housing in Richmond County,” Warden of Richmond County Lois Landry said. “By bringing together regional partners, developers, and advocates, this event will help shape the new non-profit housing association and drive collaborative solutions to the local housing crisis.”

The Housing Matters Forum will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Louisdale Lions Hall, located at 3128 Whiteside Road in Louisdale. A light breakfast and refreshments will be served.
