PORT HOOD: The Municipality of the County of Inverness, in partnership with the Eastern District Planning Commission, will host a public information session on May 7 at St. Peter’s Parish Hall in Port Hood.

The session will focus on proposed updates to the county’s Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw and will be followed by a formal public hearing.

In 2018, the Province of Nova Scotia enacted Bill 58, legislation requiring all municipalities to adopt a municipal planning strategy and land use bylaw. In response, the Municipality of Inverness County initiated Plan Inverness, a comprehensive project aimed at developing updated planning documents that align with provincial requirements.

This initiative is part of Plan Eastern Nova, a collaborative effort among the counties of Antigonish, Richmond, and Victoria to establish consistent land use planning across Eastern Nova Scotia.

“In support of this work, the Municipality of the County of Inverness and the Eastern District Planning Commission is inviting the public to attend an upcoming information session regarding the proposed new Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw,” a release from the municipality stated.

The information session will take place on May 7, from 1 to 4 p.m., at St. Peter’s Parish Hall, located at 260 Main Street in Port Hood.

“This session offers community members an opportunity to meet directly with representatives from the Eastern District Planning Commission, learn more about the proposed changes, and ask questions,” the municipality’s statement continued.

Immediately following the information session, a public hearing will be held in the council chambers at the Municipal Administration Building, located at 375 Main Street, Port Hood. During the hearing, council and planning staff will receive input from residents on the proposed planning documents. Members of the public are invited to present oral or written submissions either in support of or in opposition to the proposed plan and bylaw.

Written submissions may be mailed in advance to the municipality to: Debbie Nicholson, P.O. Box 179, Port Hood, NS B0E 2W0, or by email at Debbie.Nicholson@invernesscounty.ca.
