IRON MINES: In June a group of volunteers got together to form a chapter of the international group “100 Women Who Care.”
The new local chapter is called “100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton.” Their goal is to bring together 100 (or more) local women to raise awareness of and contribute to non-profit and charitable organizations located in Richmond, Inverness, and Victoria counties. There are many wonderful charitable organizations located in these three counties and the new chapter hopes to help give them more of the consideration and support they deserve. These non-profit groups make our counties a healthier, happier, stronger and better place to live and 100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton Chapter wants to help them accomplish their good work.
Those who can answer yes to the following questions about “100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton,” might want to register as a member:
-Are you committed to helping others in our community but are stretched for time?
-Do you want to be part of a powerful group of local women making an immediate, direct and positive effect on the lives of our neighbours?
-Do you want 100 per cent of your donations to go directly to local charity?
Do you want to learn more about the many worthy community service programs and organizations serving Cape Bretoners living in Richmond, Inverness, and Victoria counties?
This is a great way for women who don’t have a lot of extra time to make a big impact in the lives of those in need of help. This is how it works. One hundred (or more) women from the counties of Richmond, Inverness and Victoria who care about local community causes and who are committed to community service meet for two hours once a year.
Those who are members of 100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton Chapter can nominate a local non-profit organization. The organization nominated must be a registered charity or not-for-profit organization.
The 100 women vote for a local charity or non-profit organization from three randomly chosen which were nominated ahead of time by the members of the group.
Each of the three chosen groups will give a five minute presentation about the work they do. Then the members vote for one of the groups.
Each member will write a $100 cheque to the selected organization (or cash) and watch how the group’s commitment turns into a $10,000-plus donation.
With one meeting per year, witness how $10,000-plus can improve the lives of our neighbours when placed in the hands of well-deserving organizations working to serve the local community.
Members receive a tax receipt directly from the winning charity.
The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care hopes to have their official launch this summer and have the first members meeting with presentations from three non-profit organizations before the end of October.
