CANSO: The Canso Lions Club made several donations to community and educational activity this winter.

The Canso Lions donated $250 to the Fanning Education Centre/Canso Academy Robotics Club towards travel to an upcoming competition, as well, the Lions help with the school’s breakfast program.

The Lions sponsored a team in the Canso Curling Club’s Industrial Bonspiel. The Lions donated $100 towards a fundraiser for a free Easter egg hunt. The Lions also donated to the minor hockey calendar draw. The Lions continue to deliver meals to seniors every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

King Lion Carl Bond reported on a successful music night, and the next music night will be held Friday, February 28 at 8 p.m. Admission $5.

Lion Ray White informed the Club that two students received their $500 scholarships/bursary to assist them with their studies. The Canso Lions will host two dart tournaments on February 15 and 29, and the Lions kitchen will be open for takeout orders.

Weekly activities at the Lions Club continue during the winter with Tuesday TV bingo and drop-in darts. Lions meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays, and card plays are held on Thursday evening. The Kids First Program is held Wednesday morning. The second popular Hockey Night in Canso was held on February 8 and the next meat roll is February 21.

Membership in the Canso Lions continues to grow and Bond held an induction ceremony during the meeting on February 5, welcoming Priscilla Mackenzie to the Canso Lions Club.
