Bursary established in memory of former warden

ANTIGONISH: Council wants to help remember a former warden.

Council for the Municipality of the County of Antigonish is establishing a bursary at the East Antigonish Education Centre/Academy in the name of former area warden, Russell Boucher.

Current Warden Owen McCarron said council looks forward to the bursary becoming annual item, noting it will be for $500.

“Russell, he was an educator but he had a great love of students and people in general,” said McCarron. “We just felt it was fitting and it will be the Warden Russell Boucher Bursary.”

McCarron said Boucher touched a lot of lives through his life, be it at the council table or as an educator.

“We just felt it was the right thing to do,” he said, noting the recipient would have to follow four criteria, including being a student of East Antigonish Education Centre/Academy with high academic standing.

“Those criteria were created by the family.”
