Shannon Studio welcomes Jenn Grant Saturday evening

PORT HAWKESBURY: Singer/songwriter Jenn Grant returns to the Strait area for a performance this Saturday night at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre’s Shannon Studio.

After previously playing the Granville Green Outdoor Concert series and Shannon Studio, Grant told The Reporter she is excited to return.

“I really like the Shannon Studio, it felt like an intimate, nice, professional place to play,” Grant said. “We played there before, we had a lovely audience last time, so we thought we would come back and make a special trip.”

Grant just returned from a European tour, and recently released her newest record, Love, Inevitable and says the show at Shannon Studio will include a mix of old and new material.

“There’ll be stuff from the new record and I’ll be playing with my husband, Daniel Ledwell, he was with me the last time I played there,” Grant recalled. “We’ll play stuff from across the catalogue.”

According to Grant’s Web site, Love, Inevitable is a marker for a period of change in Grant’s life. The three-time Juno nominated singer’s seventh record, establishes this mood of transition.

Grant began writing songs for the record in 2018. After making four consecutive albums with Ledwell garnering a cult following and critical acclaim, Grant stepped out of her usual comfort zone and reached out to Grammy nominated American producer and engineer, Tucker Martine. A synergetic and collaborative team was born, spending the bulk of the summer months recording in Portland, Oregon.

Grant was going through a period of massive personal change after her last record, Paradise, specifically because of her pregnancy, her Web site pointed out. It was many years of personal struggle, amidst touring and making records before she could create the family she had always wanted.

Grant wrote the tracks in her living room in Halifax, turning to a Roland keyboard, experimenting with different tunings on her acoustic guitar and a banjo. She then flew to Portland, Oregon in July 2018 to record at Martine’s Flora Recording and Playback, a place that was actually coming to its end.

Armed with this new release and impressive catalogue of hits, Grant predicts the audience will have a great time.

“I think it’s going to be a great show, I think it’s going to be a great night, we’re really excited to play and I think everyone should come out,” she added.
