Human remains found near Loch Lomond

SYDNEY: The body of a deceased man was found in eastern Richmond County this morning.

The remains were located by a Department of Natural Resources helicopter near Loch Lomond where the blue 2018 Ford Escape belonging to missing 69-year-old Allister MacNeil of Sydney was found on Sunday.

The Cape Breton Regional Police Service (CBRPS) said the body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and to confirm its identity.

MacNeil’s neighbours contacted the CBRPS after not seeing or hearing from him in more than a week.

“We don’t believe Allister has met with foul play, but are concerned for his well-being and would like to hear from him,” the CBRPS said at the time.

Last weekend, police found MacNeil’s vehicle in heavily wooded area following a search by Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue, as well as the Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association, and Department of Natural Resources aircraft and spotters. On Monday, the forensic identification and K-9 units searched the woods near the vehicle.
