ANTIGONISH: A tractor trailer struck a man who left his vehicle along Highway 104 earlier this week.

At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Antigonish RCMP responded to a fatal collision on Highway 104 near Exit 32.

The police said the collision occurred when a westbound tractor trailer struck a pedestrian who had just exited his vehicle. The truck driver was not able to avoid the pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 42-year-old man from Antigonish, died at the scene. The tractor trailer driver was not injured.

Westbound traffic on Highway 104 was closed between Exits 32 and 33 for several hours while RCMP officers, with the assistance of a Collision Analyst, were on scene. The highway was re-opened at 11 p.m. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
