RICHMOND COUNTY: The Inverness Athletics remain the number one team in the Richmond Amateur Baseball Association (RABA) with an 8-2 record.
The Athletics, nursing a three game winning streak, have been the best hitting team in the league so far this season, managing 103 runs in only 10 games.
Sitting just half-a-game back are the Isle Madame Mariners, the best defensive team in the league, having allowed only 51 hits in 11 games. The Mariners are 8-3.
Rounding out the league are the Little Anse Hawks (6-7), the Petit de Grat Red Caps (6-8), the St. Peter’s Royals (4-7), and the Port Hawkesbury Bucs (3-8).
On Tuesday of last week, the Red Caps dropped the Royals 2-0.
Red Cap Richard Boudreau took the win. Maurice Boudreau and Mark Samson cashed in runners. For St. Peter’s, Jonathan Stone was three-for-three, and Steven Campbell had two singles on four at bats.
Last Thursday, St. Peter’s dropped Port Hawkesbury 5-4.
Steven Campbell got the win on the mound, and Spencer Mcnamara took the loss for Port Hawkesbury. Leading hitting for the Royals was Jonathan Stone, who went two-for-four with two RBIs.
Sheldon White had a good game for the Bucs, managing two hits on three at bats with one RBI.
Also on Thursday, the Red Caps dropped Hawks 4-1.
Red Cap James Williams took the win on the mound, and he also had a homer and two RBIs. Alex Chisholm had a single, triple, a base-on-balls, and three runs. Bryden Boudreau was two-for-two.
Rod Samson took the loss for the Hawks, and Ryan Samson had two singles on three at bats. Laurier Samson had a single, a stolen base, and a run.
Last Sunday, the Royals and the Mariners were scheduled to play a pair of games but it was postponed due to field and weather conditions. The games will be made up as soon as possible.
Also postponed was a doubleheader between the Athletics and Red Caps.
