ANTIGONISH: The Cape Breton West Islanders skated to a pair of exhibition victories over the Sydney Rush this past weekend in U18 Major action.

On Aug. 30 in Membertou, the Islanders secured a 3-1 win with goals from Andrew Jones, Lance Heukshorst, and Ryan Davidson. Gracie MacPhee had the lone marker for Sydney.

Cape Breton West held the edge in shots, outshooting the Rush 46–25, with goaltenders Carter Kersten and Jack Bell sharing the win between the pipes.

The teams met again Aug. 31 at the Keating Centre in Antigonish, where the Islanders came out on top 3-2. Scoring for Cape Breton West were Heukshorst, Jack MacInnis, and Will Chisholm, while Jacob Dunn and Carson Hogan replied for the Rush.

Bell and Kersten once again shared goaltending duties for the Islanders.

The exhibition series continues next weekend, with the Islanders and Rush squaring off Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. in Membertou and Sept. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
