WAGMATCOOK: A man is facing 22 new charges after a dramatic series of events in Wagmatcook on March 12, which led to an Emergency Alert being issued for Victoria, Inverness, and Cape Breton Counties.
Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of an altercation between two individuals on Twin Lane at approximately 2:15 p.m. One of the men involved was reportedly acting erratically and left the scene with a knife. Officers tracked him to a residence on Humes Rear East Loop, where he was found in possession of a firearm in addition to the knife.
The suspect made threats to both himself and police officers and attempted to flee in two separate stolen vehicles. After these unsuccessful attempts, he broke into another unoccupied home on Humes Rear East Loop and barricaded himself inside.
Given the risks involved, authorities issued an Emergency Alert through the Alert Ready system to warn residents. Several specialized RCMP units, including the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, Air Services, and Northeast Nova Traffic Services, were deployed to assist the Victoria County District RCMP. Crisis negotiators were also called in to help de-escalate the situation.
After several hours, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the man exited the residence and was safely arrested by the Emergency Response Team. He was assessed and treated by Emergency Health Services (EHS) for injuries sustained earlier in the day, which were unrelated to his arrest or any police actions on the scene.
Coady James Isadore, 36, of Wagmatcook, has been charged with multiple offences, including Break and Enter, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Uttering Threats, and several firearms-related offences, including Pointing a Firearm. He is also facing nine counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order.
In addition to these new charges, Isadore was already wanted on an outstanding warrant. He remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on March 13.
RCMP continue to investigate the initial altercation that led to the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Victoria County District RCMP at 902-295-2350. Tips can also be provided anonymously through Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
Police have expressed gratitude for the support of EHS, local fire rescue services, and the cooperation of residents, which helped bring the situation to a safe resolution.
