CANSO: The Young’uns, a British folk group from Stockton, County Durham in England, will play the Roadhouse Stage at the 2017 Stan Rogers Folk Festival.

The Young’uns won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards “Best Group” award in 2015 and 2016. They specialize in singing unaccompanied, and perform both traditional shanties and contemporary original songs. The members are Sean Cooney, David Eagle and Michael Hughes, who met as teenagers and encountered folk music in a local pub. They enjoyed the music and returned to the Stockton Folk Club, where one day someone said “lets hear a song from the young’uns” and hence the band’s name.

Renowned for their pitch-perfect harmonies and rapid fire humour, they have a wonderful live show. Always engaging, frequently heart-warming, they have built an enviable audience rapport. They seamlessly switch from beautiful ballads to brilliant banter, from profoundly poignant songs, to infectiously irreverent humour. They are a superb live act who should not be missed!

“This was one of my favourite accidental finds at the 2015 North American Folk Alliance Conference,” said Stanfest artistic director Troy Greencorn.
“I just dropped into a showcase room, hoping to find a gem, and that’s exactly what happened. They made me laugh till I cried, and then they made me cry. I knew immediately Stanfest had to have them.”

The public knows it as the Pourhouse Stage and Beer Garden by day, but at night, it becomes the Roadhouse Stage. Dance bands like Slowcoaster, Skippers Alley and East Pointers tore up the tunes on this new stage in 2016.

Located in the Canso Arena, the Roadhouse Stage gets fired up at 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, featuring great bands, big lights, big sound, and a perfect way to end a day at Stanfest. Dance up a storm with friends and catch up on sleep the week after!
