Canso Lions Club promotes drug awareness

CANSO: Students from Fanning Education Centre/Canso Academy were taught life skills and drug awareness and, as a result of the lessons, they created posters for the Canso Lions Club Drug Awareness poster contest.

The winning poster were: Grade Primary/1 first Mack Horne, second Lynzie Dixon and Jordan Grant third; Grade 2/3, first Kayla Dixon, second Abby Myatt and Jada Myatt third; in Grades 4-6, first place went to Navaeh Doyle; second to Skye Parker and third to Katlyn Parker.

The first place prize is $15, the second place prize is $10 and the third place prize is $5.

The poster from Grades Primary to six were judged by Lions Judy White, Ray White, and Mary Lou Bond. The chair of the poster contest was Lion Catherine DeRabbie. The Lions Club would like to thank librarian Janet Borden for her assistance with the poster contest.

Canso Lions Club will be cooking and serving the Canso Academy/Fanning Education Centre grad meal on Friday, June 22. The Lions donated to the IWK Telethon. The Canso Lions will be supporting the Canso Regatta with the Seamen’s Memorial Service on Sunday, August 12 and the boat parade and laying of wreaths at sea on Sunday, August 19.

The Lions will be operating a booth in the Regatta Midway and entering a float in the Regatta parade. The Canso Lions Club would like to thank everyone who made donations to the successful Charter Night.
