Council wants information on housing authority office

PORT HOOD: Councillors around the table in Inverness County are concerned about the future of the Cape Breton Island Housing Authority office in Inverness.

Given that council is hearing rumours about the office potentially closing, the municipal unit would like to hear chat with Housing Nova Scotia to know if any changes are coming for the local housing authority.

“We want to know what the plans are for the office,” said Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie. “We’ve been hearing things that it might change hands.”

As a result, council passed a motion to invite Stephan Richard, director of community relations and public affairs for Housing Nova Scotia, to a meeting.

Deputy Warden Alfred Poirier noted that housing is a major concern across the county.
