Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation recently established a pandemic safety by-law to combat COVID-19. The by-law allows band councillors to enact mandatory curfews, checkpoints, and even a full lockdown of the community. Those who violate the by-law can receive fines of up to $1,000 or 30 days in jail.
